A hiatus hernia is the herniation of the upper part of the stomach into the thorax through a tear/ weakness in the diaphragm.

- Diaphragm weakness
Symptoms
A hiatal hernia rarely causes symptoms. Pain and discomfort are generally due to the reflux of gastric air, acid or bile.
- Shortness of breath
- Heart palpitations
- Heartburn, worse when bending over or lying down
- Swallowing difficulty
To Reduce Symptoms:
- Avoid heavy meals
- Do not lie down for three hours after meals
- Stop smoking
- Reducing weight
If these measures do not control the symptoms, you may need surgery.
